Almost Grown

For my son on your graduation

Yesterday…

My body carried you for nine long months as you grew bigger and stronger, ready to be born.

I nursed you to give you as much nourishment as you needed to grow.

I held your small body in my arms, rocking you when you cried and needed comfort.

I kissed your tiny forehead, bathed your baby body, dressed you in the cutest clothes, and tickled you to make you laugh.

My adult hand held your little child hand tightly in mine, guiding you safely through the world as you took your first steps.

I sang you songs, I played with you, and I taught you many things like the names of all the things around you, how to walk, and helped to keep you safe.

I stood by watching you run and jump as you explored the world at the park, the playground, discovered the forest, the beach, and later the mountain.

I saw you through your difficult times like when you were sick, afraid, or had an issue at school.

I gave you all my love, attention, and semi-wisdoms.

I felt capable. I knew what to do. It was enough.

Today…
