This is How to Get Around It to Still Get the Job You Want
-“Your resume shows you took a gap to work for yourself as an entrepreneur. May I ask why you decided to return to a corporate job?”
-“We think you’d be bored here.”
-“Our culture is very alumni-driven. We have a long connection with Stanford because of our CEO.”
-“We honestly are most interested in candidates from our direct competitors.”
-“Your background is impressive but we don’t think you’d understand our vertical industry.”
- “You are clearly overqualified for this position. Why would you want this job?”
-“It’s not you. You are great. You just wouldn’t fit into our corporate culture.”
These are just a few things I heard when I was rejected for over 400 jobs.
Feedback is actually rare and precious. I only got these few gems after in-person interviews because I am persistent, and the recruiters actually liked me. Most of the time, I heard nothing. Ghosted.
