Ever So Gently, In My Arms
I love to scoop you up ever so gently into my arms
And cradle you and rock you softly back and forth
I stroke your cheeks and smooth down your hair
I give you back rubs
And hold your hand in mine
I love to sing or hum little songs to you
Sometimes I tickle you just to hear you giggle
I love to watch you sleep
You look so peaceful
I want to hug you and never let go
I whisper into your ear ‘The world is good.’ and ‘You are loved.’
I tell you that you have a bright future ahead
You are beyond perfect; you are immaculate
Yet fragile as porcelain china
I wish to build an army around to protect you
That never may anyone nor anything harm you
That no one may ever mistreat you nor break your hearts
You grow, and I can no longer rock you in my arms
And cuddles would embarrass you
So I give you my advice and my support
You already know you have my unconditional love
I don’t see you every day now
You have your own lives and your independence
But I am still here for you
You may have changed a lot on the outside
But to me, you will always be my babies
And a mother’s love knows no end
This is infinity
