Has the Non-Linear Career Become the New Norm?
The career pivot is here, and it may be the new ‘normal’

My grandparents and my parents worked in the same careers their entire lives. In fact, I don’t know many Boomers nor elder Gen Xers who changed careers, unless they immigrated and couldn’t find work in their old field. In my generation (younger Gen X) and younger, it appears to be changing fast: I rarely meet anyone under 50 who has been in one career for 10+ years, without ever having at least once tried a job pivot.
What is a Job Pivot?
A steady career course is to follow one defined path or road. A pivot is to veer off the path, zigzag, or even move towards a whole new destination or multiple destinations. A job pivot means one opts to change course once or even multiple times instead of settling for one fixed career path.
Reasons the Linear Career is Going to Die for Many
There are multiple reasons I believe a linear career path is dying and will be replaced almost entirely by a non-linear career for most skill-based jobs:
