Lead magnets aren't really good for writers. Your fans will sign up just because you put a link up and ask them to, especially if you add a line that says you'll give them first access to your articles before you publish them (free) OR access to exclusive articles (paid). I personally think you know your followers best and did the right thing listening to your gut feeling.
