I first read about masterminds in the book ‘Think and Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill (published in 1937).

This successful entrepreneur was a huge fan of masterminds, and one of his famous quotes was:

“Deliberately Seek The Company Of People Who Influence You To Think And Act On Building The Life You Desire.” — Napoleon Hill

I didn’t think much about it when I first read Napoleon Hill because I was in my late twenties, and I was working really hard to build a business while raising three little kids. I thought I had no time for masterminds.

Now that I know its power, I regret not seeing the mastermind for what it really was: not a time suck or a nice-to-have activity, but as a secret success booster that would have helped me get further sooner.

I admit I was partially skeptical about masterminds because I’ve always hated the idea of being a groupie worshiping a guru. Now I laugh at this notion, but at one time, this is what the word ‘mastermind’ evoked for me.
