Winning Looks Different to Different People
Let’s stop judging and let people define what perfection looks like for them
“You have to be a winner in life! You don’t want to end up a loser, do you?” This was something my elementary school PE teacher liked to bark at kids who didn’t meet his standards of fitness. Yes, the same teacher I wrote about in a different article, in case you are interested.
Ways We Judge People
We measure and rate people on very narrow criteria:
Physical Appearance
How attractive is this person? How tall are they? What do they weigh? Do they have something different about them like a mole or a strawberry birthmark? Do they talk or walk funny? This is why I don’t like when people compliment my daughter for her looks.
Intelligence
Being smart can be a blessing and a curse. Sometimes smart kids succeed academically but may suffer athletically or socially. On the other hand, struggling with grades can be a nightmare. Or having a learning disability that makes it difficult to keep up.
Career
Some people are more ambitious and choose to work hard while others don’t work at all. Since hard work is a core value for me, I admit I…
